About the HRC
The Hunting Retriever Club is an international organization to promote, train and compete with hunting retrievers across North America.
“Conceived by Hunters for Hunters” is both a philosophy and reality of the Hunter Retriever Club, Inc.
HRC is represented by over 130 clubs in 36 States and 2 Provinces.
In Ontario, we are represented by 4 local clubs. Lake Ontario HRC, Luther Marsh HRC, Georgian Bay HRC, & Essex HRC. We train our dogs to hunt both waterfowl and upland game, to perform at a high level, with the objective of conserving game while in the field.
In the “off-season” many of us travel and test our dogs at various levels and events throughout North America. The weekend events test our dogs at 3 levels. “Started, Seasoned & Finished”.
This is a great weekend gathering that our “HRC Family” get together to test our dogs, eat some great food and celebrate our accomplishments together.
Twice a year, there is a national level event, call the Grand. This is where we take our Champions to test them at the highest level in a 5 daylong event. Handlers and dogs travel from all over North America in search of titling their dog a “Grand Hunting Retriever Champion” This is one of the highest honours we can place on our dogs in our sport.
Locally, we host training days to help each other train and improve our dogs, and host 1-2 weekend hunt tests per year, per club. In addition, we participate in conservation efforts, training demos, and promote the retriever breeds.
Each club hosts training days at various intervals depending on the interest and availability within their club. We also build our own smaller training groups to support each other in our goals and train on a regular basis. We invite you to contact our clubs below to check out a training day with your dog!
During our demonstrations at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show, we will show you some of the tasks we train our dogs to perform and introduce training tips to those hunters who are training their dog to be better for next year’s season.
