MNRF Cook your Catch Stage

A returning favourite for 2018 is the MNRF “Cook Your Catch” stage, presented in partnership with Foodland Ontario.

Fishing pro Italo Labignan will be preparing fresh walleye with Conservation Officer Mark McKernon speaking about the proper packaging of fish.

Chefs Ted Reader and Tawfik Shehata will also be cooking with game and fresh fish.

Italo Labignan

Italo Labignan graduated from Fleming College as a Fish and Wildlife Technician and worked for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. 

In 1985 Italo pioneered a concept for his own sport fishing television series that combined conservation and education with entertaining fishing action! The Canadian Sportfishing Show & social media is Canada's Leader in Promoting Sportfishing & Educating Anglers for Consistent Success!

The Canadian Sportfishing Show aired for 27 yrs. on TSN. Today it can be seen on CHCH-TV, YesTV, WFN,WildTV, CHEX-TV, CKWS-TV, CITL-TV.  The series can also be seen 24/7 on the Italo Labignan YouTube channel.

Nexsgen Sports Inc. is the operating company for all of the divisions which includes an extensive social media platform that help anglers catch more fish!

Italo continues to be an integral part of the television, commercial & industrial production division, and frequently is a featured speaker at consumer shows.

Chef Ted Reader

Known as the ‘Godfather of the Grill’, his charm and fearless culinary spirit has led Ted to become an award-winning chef, author, food and product innovation entertainer and a professor of Modern Culinary Applications Innovations at the Canadian Food and Wine Institute at Niagara College.

Ted’s culinary adventure began at George Brown College Chef School in Toronto, which to date has paved the way for his dynamic career. He cooks for all walks of life from swanky corporate affairs; to backyard BBQ parties and summer festivals.

Ted’s passion for all things smoked and grilled is extremely contagious. You’ll often find him spreading his gospel of BBQ at live cooking demonstrations and TV and radio appearances that keep fans salivating for more!

Ted has written over twenty-one cookbooks and has won such awards as Cookbook of the Year for the 2014 Single-Subject Cookbook at The Taste of Canada Food Writing Awards for Gastro Grilling. Other books he has written include; Beerlicious: The Art of Grillin’ and Chillin’, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Smoking, and Napoleon’s Everyday Plank Grilling just to name a few.

Ted owns over 75 grills and smokers, but most recently added a 1972 Ford Seagrave pumper truck to his collection called Hoptimus Prime.

Today you can find Ted in the backyard of his Toronto home tinkering with toys and developing creative and delicious recipes.

Tawfik Shehata

Tawfik Shehata brings over 20 years of culinary experience to his position as the Executive Chef of The International Centre. Chef Tawfik acquired his broad and distinctive culinary experience at many of Toronto's finest establishments and renowned resorts in Jamaica and Bermuda.

Voted one of the “Top Ten New Chefs in Canada” by enRoute Magazine and has made appearances on numerous episodes of Food Network Canada, CBC, Rogers and SUN TV.

His unique recipes have been featured in over a dozen publications, he is also a part-time instructor, and a spokesperson for Foodland Ontario.
